Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service is part of the Queensland Department of Health’s network of 16 Hospital and Health Services. The health service delivers public healthcare throughout the Sunshine Coast and Gympie region at hospital facilities and health services including:

  • Nambour General Hospital
  • Caloundra Health Service
  • Gympie Hospital
  • Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital
  • A range of community health services from 24 sites including Nambour, Maroochydore, Gympie, Noosaville, Caloundra, Kawana, Tewantin, Cooroy, Mountain Creek, Buderim, Beerwah, Tin Can Bay and Mooloolaba.
  • Services provided to public patients at the Noosa Hospital and Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital.

Demand for healthcare services in the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service continues to grow and the key drivers for this demand include:

Projected population growth

The older population, aged 65 years and over, is projected to have the greatest growth from 2006 to 2021, increasing by a factor of 179 per cent.

 

Changing nature of disease and injury

In particular an increase in chronic disease across all ages driving demand for new models of care to cost-effectively address this issue.

 

Changing nature of service delivery

In particular innovative medical technologies driving a reduction in length of hospital stays, improving life expectancy, increasing day only procedures and expanding options for care in non-hospital settings.
